American Safety & Health Institute Wilderness First Aid Course

WFA (second half): This is a continuation of the first half and is geared toward those who are involved in more serious wilderness activities. The primary focus of this half is on the continuation of care in situations where professional help may be significantly delayed for many hours or days. Many of the first aid techniques discussed should be used only as a last resort, and not in urban settings when EMS is available within minutes.
This second half of the class covers the following topics:
> Patient Assessment & Report Writing
> Altitude-Related Illnesses
> Water Contamination & Treatment
> Snake Bites, other Bites, and Stings; Environmental Poisons
> Carrying Techniques, Improvised Stretchers, and Litters
> Emergency Shelters
> Serious Wounds, Fractures, and Tractioning
> Evacuation Considerations
Wilderness First Aid class includes scenario practice and a performance evaluation, as well as, a written examination.

The certification issued is the: American Safety & Health Institute Wilderness First Aid - 3 year Certification - ($160)*
Both halves of the classes are "class-room" based and intended for anybody involved in outdoor activities. No previous medical training is required. Also, camping orientation and survival technique topics are not covered in this course.
We do not offer Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician classes at this time as these need to be conducted in outdoor settings.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the Wilderness First Aid class or certifications.
